The venue is revealed: Jindabyne Library! â
It's been locked in! Snow Gum Summit will be held at the Jindabyne Library, right in the heart of town.
Turns out, finding a venue is hard. â
I basically spoke to every pub, club, and venue space around Jindabyne and on Perisher. Almost all of them fell through on one of three things:
- Time - Venues can't afford to block out a space for an event like ours during a night of the winter peak season in the Snowy Mountains.
- Cost - A first-year, not-for-profit conference does not have a venue budget that makes a commercial function room worthwhile.
- Size - Some venues either weren't the right size, or didn't have the capability to host presentations.
The whole process was at times, demotivating, but it was nevertheless good research for future runnings!
Beautiful library came to save us. â
The library was able to fit all the criteria we were looking for:
- Private meeting room - No interruptions from the public
- Access after hours - No need to bring people off the mountain
- Equipment to present slides - No need to bring a projector
- Support for catering - No venue hopping faff
And to top it all off, it's truely a spectacular building. The sustainable timbre interiors that contrast with the pitched roof really make you feel cozy. I can say all this after visiting!
It's a shame we'll only have access to the meeting room space, but that just means there's room for improvement đ
